| Argyle Acres grows about four acres of irises. The
following photos show part of the farming operation. |
Thousands of irises are hand planted in October and November in
raised rows for good drainage. Note the names on the metal markers.
|
Irises like cold weather. It occasionally snows
and rains in Texas. In a few days the moisture will disappear and
leave the irises high and dry.
|

And how they do grow during the spring and summer.
The roots which grow deep to the water source produce healthy plants.
|
In late summer it is time to harvest and ship the
irises. Here's Donna out standing in our field :)
|

Each plant is hand dug, trimmed, tagged, washed, and
dried overnight in the barn.
|
It is hot, hard work. What a sense of
accomplishment to provide superior rhizomes!
